Brake lining technology is rapidly developing to adjust the needs of vehicle braking performance and its influence on the environment. Material commonly used as a brake lining is asbestos and its alloys, but this material is very dangerous to the health and environment. This research was developed to overcome these problems, namely finding alternative brake lining pads material that has good mechanical and structural properties and is environmentally friendly. Brake lining material is made from a hybrid composite reinforced basalt powder, shellfish powder, alumina powder, brass powder and phenolic resin (PR-51510i) as a binding matrix. This brake lining pad material is produced through a sintering process with a pressure of 1500 kg for 30 minutes at a temperature of 120 °C. This hybrid composite is made in as many as three variations, each of which is tested for wear resistance, distribution of temperature, and deacceleration performance for several engine speeds. The highest wear rate of 0.00000250 g/s.mm2, still lower than the asbestos brake lining wear rate. While the working temperature reaches 269.80C at 7500 rpm engine speed. Then the increase in the percentage of basalt gives an increase in the deacceleration performance of hybrid composite brake linings that are developed, not much different from asbestos brake linings.
