THE EFFECT OF BIODIESEL-DIESEL FUEL BLENDING ON EXHAUST GAS EMISSIONS

Abstrak
The total use of vehicles increasing, causing the need for diesel fuel has increased as well. The more use of diesel vehicles causes the more exhaust gas emissions produced. Therefore, it affects the risk to human health. Exhaust gas emissions can be reduced by blending biodiesel-diesel fuel. Biodiesel made by esterification process of waste cooking oil obtained from the process of frying food. Furthermore, diesel fuel blended with 12.5% v/v of biodiesel-diesel (B12.5), 15% v/v of biodiesel-diesel (B15), 17.5% v/v of biodiesel-diesel (B17.5) and 100% of biodiesel (B100). Diesel Fuel Pure (B0) used as a comparison of the observations results. Exhaust gas emissions were observed using Gas Analyzer to obtain CO, CO2, HC, and smoke opacity. The purpose of this research study is to obtain exhaust gas emissions from the combustion process due to the effect of blending biodiesel-diesel fuel. The increase in biodiesel-diesel blend resulted in the reduction of CO, CO2, and HC at a low rotation of 1000 rpm and 1500 rpm. Smoke opacity not produced in this rotation. Intermediate rotation of 2500 rpm resulting in a reduction of CO, HC, and smoke opacity, but the CO2 had increased. High rotation of 4500 rpm produces CO fluctuating, CO2 was relatively constant, HC fluctuated, and smoke opacity increased.
