PENGARUH UKURAN PARTIKEL DAN SUHU EKSTRAKSI TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK EKSTRAK PEWARNA ALAMI BUNGA KENIKIR (Tagetes erecta L.)

Abstrak
Marigold flower has the potential as a natural dye agent. Yellow to orange color was obtained through the extraction process.The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of particle size and temperature of extraction on the characteristic of marigold flower natural dye extract and to determine the best treatment of particle size and temperature of extraction of marigold flower natural dye extract. The experiment of this study used factorial randomized block design with two factors. The first factor was particle size consisting of three levels: 40, 60, and 80 mesh. The second factor was temperature consisting of three levels: 30±2 ºC, 45±2 ºC, and 60±2 ºC. The results showed that particle size and temperature of extraction had significantly effect (P<0.01) on rendement, carotenoid, brightness (L*), redness (a*), and yellowess (b*). Interaction of the two treatments had significantly (P<0.01) on rendement, carotenoid, brightness (L*), redness (a*), and yellowess (b*). The best treatment of producing natural dye extract of marigold flower was obtained on particle size from 60 mesh and temperature of extraction 45±2 ºC, which can produce 8.79% of rendement, 21.52% of carotenoid total, 21.05 of brightness (L*), 11.43 of redness (a*), and 19.66 of yellowess (b*).
