Pain can arise caused by many factor, one of the factor can raise pain is disruption in the pain receptors, pain receptors are nerve endings and located in the skin, muscles, bones and joints. The onset of pain will certainly interfere our activity, so we need painkillers. The kind of medications to relieve pain are referred to as analgesics. In fact, currently there are various kinds of analgesic drugs on the market. In addition, plants also have analgesic activity, one of the plant that have analgesic activity is mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.). The purpose of this study is rate and comparison of the onset and activity of two types of analgesics given topically and ED50 values using the hot plate method. The study was conducted by dividing six mice into 4 groups. Group I as a group that got treatment (Gel Mangosteen); Group II as a positive control group (Voltaren Gel); group III as a normal group (without training); and group IV as a negative control group (Base Gel). Thirty minutes after got each treatment, the mice placed on the top of beaker glass that was heated up by hot plate on temperature 700C. The time elapsed from placing the animal on the hot plate and the interaction of animal such as licking the soles of the feet, shaking, or jumping from the surface are recorded as latency responses in seconds. The results in this study were the mangosteen gel (Garcinia mangostana L.) concentration of 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5% had an analgesic effect. The higher the concentration of Garcinia mangostana L. gel, the higher the analgesic power obtained. The ED50 value obtained was 0.037 mg / kg body weight.
