Abstrak

Background : Diabetic Neuropathy is one of the most common complication in diabetes. Nerve damage account for high morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. Identification and early detection diabetic neuropathy risk factor lead to better prevention and management of diabetic neuropathy. Method : A cross sectional study was done from March - May 2006 on 100 Diabetic type 2 patients. Anamnesis, physical , neurological and laboratory examination were assessed. Correlation between patient characteristics (age, sex, body mass index), blood glucose control and coexisting disease ( hypertention, dyslipidemia) with diabetic neuropathy was analyzed. Result : One hundred diabetic type 2 patients consist of 63 males and 37 females. Mean- Age 57.76 ± 10.23, BMI 25,60 ± 5.99, duration of DM 5.33 ± 4,78. Among them 47 % are regularly controled , 52 % and 44 % are with hypertension and dislipidemia. There was positive correlation between male, blood glucose control and hypertension with evidence diabetic neuropathy ( p < 0.05), and no correlation beetwen age ( p =0.432), duration of DM ( p = 0,631) and IMT ( p = 0,226) with diabetic neuropathy. Conclusion : Evidence of diabetic neuropathy has correlation with male, irregular blood glucose control and hypertension in diabetic patients.
