SPEECH FUNCTIONS IN BTS RM UTTERANCES IN MUSICIANS ON MUSICIANS

This study,entitled “Speech Functions in BTS’ RM Utterances in Musicians on Musicians,” aimed to examine the speech function in BTS’ RM utterancesduring his appearance onthe “Musicians on Musicians” podcast and to observeand describe the frequentlyand least frequentused speech functions. Data were collected using the documentation method and note-taking technique from Rolling Stone’s YouTube channel. A mixed method and content analysis techniques were employed for data analysis, based on speech function theory of Holmes. The results were presented using both informal and formal methods. A total of 123 speech functions were identified in RM’s utterances, including five out of six speech function types. The phatic function was the most frequent, appearing in 60 (49%) utterances,while the directive function was the least frequent, appearing in two (2%) utterances.Keywords: speech function, podcast analysis, frequent, least frequent
