Abstrak

The art of making sculpture had become one of tradition in society in which its development from pre-Hindu period until Modern-Balinese period can be apprehended. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between periodization from each sculpture shape and function and the factor that trigger the development of its shape and function. Furthermore, there were three temples in Keramas village that was investigated in this study namely, Besakih Keramas Temple, Kebo Edan Temple, and Puseh Ampingan Temple. These temple were used because of some special and unique remain sculptures that could be related to each period of each special heritage statues invented in these three temples. Beside spot observation, interviews, and field survey, and library study, the writer also used several analyses as the core in solving the problem of this study. Among others were; iconography, echonoplastic, echonology analyses, and study of athno-archaelogy. Based on the elaboration the writer could conclude that the use of statue as the media of worshiping had changed and developed either in its shape as well as in its style of decoration, in accordance to the development of art making sculpture of each period. Though this art of making sculpture has changed in its shape but it is still used as the media of worshiping and appreciating the holy sole of the ancestors.
