Abstrak

Pengotan village is one of Bali indigenous people at Bangli district. Early age married and pregnancy before married are quite common in this village which impact to maternal and child health nutrition. Considering that situation, intervention package through cultural approach involved community leaders. They were invited to be actively involved to assess the rules and policy system called awig-awig and perarem. Through the participation approach it is expected that the rules can be accepted and adopted by the members of the village efficiently and sustainably. The target of this policy are the new couples, their parents, teenagers, the mother’s of the children age of five years or less and all of the village leaders. In addition, the information was also gathered through a partial observation and participation, focus group discussions as well as content’s analysis of the related documents. Married and engagement in this village was also assessed from the traditional ceremonial perspective, economic impact, as well as community health’s aspects. From the socio-psychological point of view, young married has a negative impacts towards mothers’ and child’s health. It was proved that the malnutrition problem in this village was the highest among the nine other villages in the Bangli sub district. Perarem that is expected to prevent married in early age has not been developed yet. This was brings about a negative impact on maternal and child health as well as the reproductive health status. It is suggested that inspite of cultural approach, behavior on early age engagement and or pre-marital pregnancy is worth to be anticipated through evidence based public health approach.
