Abstrak

Explicitly in some types of plants have been mentioned repeatedly the inscriptions at the time of ancient Bali X-XI centuries AD. The plants were mostly preserved and useful for the fulfillment of basic needs and spiritual. The issues discussed in this research such as: the type of the plants, the purpose of the plants used, and the public perception about of the plants. The aim of the research to document the knowledge of society at the time of ancient Bali X-XI centuries AD, related to the diversity of the plants were utilized. This research used the archaeological approach with a qualitative method to obtain descriptive data in the form of written and oral through of literature review, observation, and interviews. Data which obtained were then analyzed using qualitative, contextual, and etnoarchaeology. Theories that are used in this research among others: adaptation, subsistence, and cultural ecological. The results obtained, there were 45 species of plants and the purpose were used for: food ingredient, medicine, means of traditional ceremonies in Bali, craft materials (fabric, container, and musical instruments), building, protection of enviromental, means of punishment, and means of writing a manuscript. Besides its use, community interaction with the environment of the plants was also indicated by the presence of plants that were considered to have the value of sacred or profane.
