Bebras was first held in Lithuania (www.bebras.org), is an extra-curricular activity that educates problem solving skills in informatics with the largest number of participants in the world. The participating students will take part in a free competition under the supervision of the teacher, who can integrate these challenges into the teacher's teaching activities. This competition is conducted annually online via computer. What is contested in the competition is a set of questions called the Bebras task. Tasks are presented in the form of problem descriptions equipped with interesting pictures, so that students can more easily understand the questions. These questions can be answered without the need to study informatics first, but these questions are actually related to certain concepts in informatics and computational thinking. Bebras task also shows the aspects of informatics and computational thinking. The Bebras Competition was founded in Lithuania by Prof. Valentina Dagiene from the University of Vilnius in 2004. Bebras is the Lithuanian term for “beaver” (in Indonesian it is “beaver”). Bebras were chosen as a symbol of challenge, because beaver animals strive to achieve the target perfectly in their daily activities. They build dams from tree branches in rivers or streams and build their own houses. These competitions are called Bebras to show hard work and intelligence are needed in life.Bebras Competition is held every year. More than 55 countries have participated in Bebras. In 2018, the number of participants who took part in the Bebras Challenge reached more than 2.75 million students from various parts of the world. After his visit to Indonesia in February 2016, Prof. Valentina Dagiene (Vilnius University, Lithuania), the founder of Bebras International, invited Indonesia to be an observer at the Bebras International Workshop in May 2016.Indonesia participated in holding the Bebras Challenge for the first time in November 2016, according to the schedule set by the Bebras International Committee.
