The Potency of Newcastle Disease Virus for Cancer Virotherapy

This book has been compiled to provide insights into the potential of Newcastle Disease (ND) virus as a virotherapy agent for cancer treatment. It aims to contribute knowledge for researchers, lecturers, and students interested in exploring the ND virus beyond its well-known role as a poultry pathogen, particularly its application in cancer virotherapy—especially for fibrosarcoma in animal models. The book discusses the molecular characteristics of local ND virus isolates, which are responsible for the deadly tetelo disease in poultry, and explores their potential use in cancer virotherapy. Although the oncolytic properties of ND virus have been widely studied for decades—given its ability to lyse tumor cells in mammals—there remains a lack of sufficient literature supporting the oncolytic potential of local ND virus isolates from Indonesia.
