Bali Tourism Metamorphosis, The Challenge of Building Sustainable Tourism (Tourismmorphosis: Stages Over a Hundred Years of Development and Prediction of Bali Tourism)

This article based on research that focus to the development of Bali tourism based on feld research and literature studies. Referring to the historical approach to tourism from Raharjo and Munandar (1998) which was modified in its periodization according to findings in the field. If Raharjo and Munandar (1998) put forward the stages of tourism development in Bali starting from the introduction stage, the reaction stage, and the institutionalization stage, this article based on the results of the study sets a different time point at each of these stages and adds a new stage in accordance with the findings. The article seeks to uncover the leading discourse, institutions, paradigmatic and problematic figures at each stage.
